Jeremy Scott and Moschino may no longer be a thing but the designer is still plenty busy. Case in point, Scott's new partnership with Korean car manufacturer Hyundai, the latest in the latter's ongoing Re:Style upcycling program.

For Hyundai Re:Style 2023, Jeremy Scott has saved discarded Hyundai Motor Car parts from the junk pile, instead transforming them into wearable couture (car-ture?).

The results range from strappy dresses made of seatbelts and high-shouldered gowns stitched together from quilted Bio TPO Skin to daring ensembles fashioned of rearview mirrors. It's a scrappy affair (pun intended?!) that's charmingly wanton in texture and refined in shape.

“When Hyundai approached me, I felt both honored and challenged,” Scott said. “I love the idea of crafting something with materials that I’ve never used before. Leftover taillight and seatbelts were definitely a first, but it shows that with creativity you can breathe new life into anything."

Sure, why not? This is the guy who puts wings on adidas and Shrek on the runway, after all.

Launching on March 22 as part of Seoul Fashion Week, Jeremy Scott's Hyundai Re:Style collection is the fourth in series, following efforts with indie designers and luxury retailers. The collaboration's debut also just so happens to tie in with the launch of Hyundai's 2023 Kona EV, which certainly ain't a coincidence.

Both Hyundai and Jeremy Scott have been in the news recently for entirely different reasons (Hyundai in particular).

For Scott's part, he shocked the fashion biz by announcing his departure from Moschino following a 10-year tenure at the Italian luxury label.

Scott teased that he already has something special in store for his next career move, though I wouldn't expect it to be automotive-related, necessarily.

Still, I get the feeling that Scott, the quintessential fashion everyman, may indeed be looking beyond the fashion industry for his next gig. Either that or perhaps a relaunch of his eponymous Jeremy Scott brand, which would tie in pretty neatly with this Hyundai collection.
