On Feb 17, 2020, the official account of The Central Committee of the Communist Youth League on Weibo announced the launch of its virtual idols "Hongqiman" and "Jiangshanjiao", and set up a new official microblog, and called on people to "come and support the League Idols".

As soon as the microblog was released, it sparked heated discussion among netizens on the Chinese mainland. As the move coincides with the 2019 coronavirus epidemic, some netizens expressed that they could not believe that the government would launch such a thing in the midst of a national crisis. The vast majority of netizens believe that this project is too entertaining and fanatical, and not serious. They say that "League members are first citizens, then members of the organization, but not fans", which has won the approval of many netizens. Five hours later, the official microblog of 'Central Committee of the Communist Youth League' deleted the contents of 'Jiangshanjiao' and 'Hongqiman'.

The cartoon mascot was supposed to inspire national unity since there were lots of successful cases like 那年那兔那些事. But to its 13m followers on Weibo, the popular microblogging site, it has provoked only derision and irritation. Within a few hours, they pulled out "Jiangshanjiao" and "Hongqiman." But female netizens continue to reinvent Jiangshanjiao as a symbol of the absolute detriment to everything that women live in their land.

"Jiangshanjiao, are you still a virgin?" "They asked, mimicking the sexism they encountered. "Jiangshanjiao, if your husband beats you, will the police respond?" "Why are you wearing a skirt?" "Did your parents want another child because you are a girl?" "Our company only hires people." One of the songs uploads about Jiang Shanjiao: "You can get a master's and a Ph.D. and still can't be proud/Because it's not easy to find a husband." It's been viewed more than 5 million times.
