During 2011, students around Colombia decided to create a National Student organization that would organize thousands of them to reject a harmful educational reform (Reforma a la ley 30). Before this year, student organizations were characterized by their segmentarity and old fashion yet violent ways to protest.
On July 23rd 2011 a newly formed organization Multi-Story performed Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring in a multi-story car park in Peckham Rye London. In doing so it completely subverted the entrenched traditions of the performance of classical music. The organization used student musicians and did not charge admission.
In 2011, a video displaying fashion designer and former lead designer at Dior, John Galliano, shouting anti-Semitic remarks, went viral on the internet, leading to his subsequent dismissal from Dior and the subsequent defamation of his career. Nonetheless, Parsons at the New School extended Galliano an offer to teach a specialized design seminar, which was scheduled to begin this year.
