Multi-Story-Rite of Spring in a Car Park Favorite 

On July 23rd 2011 a newly formed organization Multi-Story performed Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring in a multi-story car park in Peckham Rye London. In doing so it completely subverted the entrenched traditions of the performance of classical music. The organization used student musicians and did not charge admission. They received excellent reviews from the media and on the strength of the project secured funding to bring classical works to schools and communities around Britain.
Multi-Story have succeeded in challenging the stock interpretation of classical music as elitist and exclusionary by creating a low cost model of performance they manage to bring the music to a broader audience and break constricting tradition of keeping such music in the concert hall.
