KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
A 16-year-old boy is in the hospital after his family says he was shot in the head after knocking on the wrong door.

The suspect is not in jail and that is sparking protests across the metro and attention from people across the country.

Ralph Yarl meant to go to a house on Northeast 115th Terrace to pick up his siblings on Thursday night. But he went to 115th Street instead. After he knocked, he was shot.

Now, his family and the community are calling for justice. Protestors gathered on Sunday afternoon in a show of solidarity and to call for accountability.

The march began with prayer.

“We are praying for healing for Ralph,” one of the organizers said. “We want to open the eyes of Kansas City to this injustice.”

Hundreds walked to the house where Yarl was shot in Kansas City North. It was a march of love for Yarl and his family, but that is not to say that people aren’t angry.

"You sent your son to go get your siblings and he almost didn’t come back,” one woman said to the crowd. “We're here for Ralph. We're here for every other Black boy.”

Chants echoed across 115th Street, calling for justice for Ralph.

Amidst the anger, his aunt said they have a lot to be thankful for. Yarl is alive and he is healing.

“This right here is a lot of love,” Faith Spoonmore, Yarl’s aunt, said. “Ralph will feel a lot of love because this is a lot of people. This is amazing."

As Yarl begins his journey toward recovery, his family continues their fight for justice. With prayer and with love, the community is rallying right behind them.

A GoFundMe for Yarl's care has raised more than $850,000.

His family says they have attorneys working on their case already. One of them is civil rights attorney Ben Crump.

Crump posted on twitter calling the shooting unjustifiable and demanded prosecution. Crump also worked on George Floyd and Breonna Taylor’s cases.

KCPD said in a press conference Sunday afternoon that they are continuing to thoroughly investigate the case.
