#stickit2em is an all-inclusive, anti-capitalist, & pro-planet justice movement, using the clever medium of stickers!

"America is segregated and so is pollution. Race and class still matter and map closely with pollution, unequal protection, and vulnerability. Today, zip code is still the most potent predictor of an individual's health and well-being," Dr. Robert Bullard, Father of Environmental Justice. This fact from Dr. Robert Bullard is what started this journey. "STICK IT 2 'EM" is activism through art, or rather, 'stick,' founded in 2020 by
@D4LEZ, their base lies grounded in a single question:

"In the United States, zip code can tell us more about a person's health and welfare than one's own genetic code.
We urge you to ask yourself, those around you, and your government officials, why?"

Therefore, this activist's goal is quite literally to "sitck it to 'em."

Stickers are provided to users who follow the Instagram account, which are then to be placed strategically in one's neighborhood.
The account warns that the stickers are not intended for laptops are water bottles, which is clarified by the account. Instead, they advise their followers to "sitck them where you like, but do your best to make a statement."

Sticking Ideas include:
- gas stations
- national banks
- chain grocery stores
- newspaper stands
- town / city halls
- classrooms
- gentrified storefronts
- Amazon stores
- street signs
- courthouses
- chemical and power plants

How does this project help?

Timeframe For change

The long term goal is to evoke systematic change by making the public -- and by extension, public officials -- question the reality of health and welfare in the United States and the extent to which the country is still gravely segregated based on race and class. By putting these stickers in strategic locations, the long-term goal is to literally "stick it to them" and evoke thought and consideration that leads to systemic improvements.

Notes

I believe locally, the project was semi-effective as I have seen stickers in many locations throughout NYC -- particularly in Brooklyn. In terms of evoking change, however, I am unaware of the project going beyond sticker placements and some Instagram activity. I do believe it has the potential with more media efforts, but the project remains dormant right now.
