"Project Black Mask HK (PBMHK) was founded by a (then) 18-year-old, Joyce Ho, who is an American-born Hong Konger. On May 28, 2020, during a peak of the Coronavirus Pandemic, many people expressed frustration with their inability to protest on the streets (of the United States) in support of the freedom and democracy for Hong Kong. PBMHK became a space where people could do exactly that. Wearing black masks, the initial project for PBMHK was born through this idea and a series of videos recorded by people in support of Hong Kong from all over the world.

Project Black Mask HK has since expanded into a group of passionate people who want to support freedom movements from all over the world.

Currently, PBMHK is working with communities including Tibetans, Uyghurs, Taiwanese, Kazakhs, Burmese, Southern Mongolians, Thailanders, and Chinese to spread awareness for the horrors that authoritarian regimes are capable of. The members of PBMHK have been involved in local grassroots actions in addition to national legislative actions to try to spread awareness for our cause."

Currently, Project Black Mask HK is partnering with the Committee on the Present Danger: China for a project to spread awareness for controveries that took place during the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, China.
