Watch Gabriel Frilando (aka CheatDeathNYC) cycle through the streets of New York City in this short film of remembrance made by NYC based, Argentinian born, director/ cinematographer Nicolás de Miranda.

Speaking about this personal project Nicolás says:

"On June 18th of 2019, my dear friend and colleague Jonathan tragically died by suicide, my world had come tumbling down, and with it, my interest in telling stories. I had so many feelings about my friend’s passing, that only by opening up to my close friends, was I able to realize that I was not alone. Through this camaraderie and shared grief, I slowly regained my desire for filmmaking and knew that I wanted to do something in Jonathan's honor.

“In honor of a dear friend gone too soon I present this short film of remembrance “Bike Church.”
Three years later, I contacted Gabriel Frilando, who many know by his moniker: CheatDeathNYC. As the main subject of “NYC IsHandsome” [a short film about cycling based in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan], Gabriel was the focus and reason that initially brought Jonathan and me together for the first of many collaborations. In honor of Jonathan, I wanted to return to where it all began, a complete full circle, with Gabriel, a bicycle and the streets of New York City. In honor of a dear friend gone too soon I present this short film of remembrance “Bike Church.”

Effectiveness

How does this project help?

Timeframe For change

The long term project of this project is to create more awareness around the vast scope of people mental health may impact, and to encourage people dealing with mental health insecurity to seek an outlet which can act to help whatever they’re dealing with.

Notes

This project’s effectiveness is easily measurable due to the platform it occupies. As an online video, views, comments and likes are trackable. In the comments section, there are threads of people who’ve been impacted by mental health, and threads of people who bike fixed-gear. It was wonderful to see the two threads of people interact with each other on an online forum.
