New York performance artist Matthew Silver is at it again. In his most recent stunt he reminded people that self love can't be achieved through commodities. Chanting "You don't need stuff to love yourself" in his underwear at Columbus Circle he created a spectacle that attracted more and more people to his message. We need more messages like this that illuminate the perpetual dissatisfaction and anxiety created by a consumerist society - a society that demands we buy to be happy, yet at the same time insures our perpetual misery so that we buy more.
