Tania Bruguera, in partnership with the Queens Museum of Art, began a long term art project in form of an artist initiated socio-political movement. Immigrant Movement International is an organization headquartered in the multinational neighborhood of Corona, Queens. The organization engages local, national and international audiences and focuses on the issues of immigration reform. The organization serves several different purposes: a community space for education, an immigration think tank, a lab practicing activist tactics, and a place to search for new tools for communication. The overall goal of the organization is to educate society about immigration, specifically in the U.S. and encourage the immigrant communities to maintain their roots and celebrate the richness of their own cultures, while helping them to adapt to U.S. culture.
