Shirin Neshat is an Iranian visual artist who works and resides in New York City. Her work refers to the social, political and religious codes of Muslim societies. She particularly addresses the psychological dimensions of women's experience in contemporary islamic societies. Using Persian poetry and calligraphy she has examined concepts such as martyrdom, space of exile, and the issues of identity and femininity.

In Switzerland, a woman dies every week as a result of domestic violence, so in an effort to get everyone to act, the charity has put up an interactive billboard in a shopping mall that shows a man in a family doing violence to a woman.

Swiss doctors are expanding the range of prescriptions for patients with mental health conditions and chronic illnesses to include strolls in public gardens, art galleries and museums. DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) — Activists with a big fake polar bear have occupied a Shell service station in the Swiss resort of Davos to protest Royal Dutch Shell PLC's oil drilling in the Arctic. About 25 activists from around Europe chained gas pumps together Friday at the station near where the World Economic Forum was being held and hung a banner on the roof reading "Arctic Oil - Too Risky."
