Social Activism Through Art Favorite
These examples of activism boldly show a grasp at change through means of art and change itself rather than force and politicking. For instance, Zanele Muholi turned the camera on herself to put it in her own words. She used her own image to send the necessary message; and in this instance that was all that was required for people to understand what she was trying to say. Another example is the "Blood Stained Wedding Dress", with the initial movement aiming to bring awareness towards violence, onlookers immediately make the connection between wedding dresses and violence. The dresses screamed domestic violence and reminded people that attacks are not only committed by strangers and can occur within the home too. These examples of art relaying a message that is uncovered intrinsically by onlookers gives the revelation of the intended message much more power than if it were relayed in the simple manner of words.
