NYU Skurball

For the completion of her residency as the NYU Steinhardt 2023-24 Scholar-in-Residence, Dominique Jackson collaborated with NYU students to honor the fem queen (trans women) and their historical meaning to not only ballroom but popular culture at large. The event featured a dance honoring the fem queen, a fashion show where NYU students were paired up with ballroom legends to create looks inspired by iconic fem queens, an LSS, a process that calls out individual legends, statements, and stars to honor their presence before a ball, and a performance by the Season 3 winners of HBO Max's television show, Legendary.

Timeframe For change

The goal is to be able to celebrate and revere the fem queen as not someone who stands outside of the heteronormative but as an integral piece of the cultural fabric of today.

Notes

The show was amazing to watch and get a full educational and entertaining showcase of who fem queens are to their community.
