The DREAM Act Union is a collective of theater artists, educators and activists working to raise awareness about the challenges faced by immigrant youth and the DREAM Act through the creation of theatrical events and partnerships that connect artists and audiences to the broader social movement. DREAM Act Union is a project conceived by playwright Chiori Miyagawa for Re/Union Company.

On March 10, 2013 DREAM Act Union presents a hybrid theater event integrating performance with public forum at NYU’s Skirball Center. Admission is free.

In the play Dream Acts, five undocumented students from Nigeria, Mexico, Ukraine, Korea, and Jordan relate stories of their extraordinary challenges in living ordinary lives under the Homeland Security radar. Each story is moving and urgent; some are funny, others are tragic, and through their experiences, audiences learn about the DREAM Act and the secret lives led by undocumented students.

The staged reading is followed by a Panel Discussion moderated by playwright Saviana Stanescu featuring: Alejandra Rincon, author, Undocumented Immigrants and Higher Education; Dan H. Berger, Esq., Curran & Berger LLP; the playwrights and performers; and undocumented students eligible for proposed DREAM Act benefits.

The play is also available royalty free. Please visit www.dreamactunion.org for more information.

The play Dream Acts was written by Chiori Miyagawa (founder), Jessica Litwak, Saviana Stanescu, Andrea Thome, and Mia Chung. Directed by Kristin Horton.
